Please welcome Narelle with her first submission to our Monthly Creative Challenge!
She's made us two entries with her little baggie of supplies - the Pink Pirouette ribbon and the Sherbet buttons. Both projects feature the Sweet Always papers, the Eastern Blooms stamp set, and the Three Little Words Stamp set.
This little purse is a very cute way to package up a small gift, especially for the younger set. All three of my girls oohed and ahhhed over this one. The flower is covered in glitter - the photo does not do it justice. The two-toned button complements the monochromatic theme perfectly.
Using a few different prints from the Sweet Always pack, Narelle has made a complenting card. I haven't shown this cool medallion to my customers yet - but it's a very clever way to use those edge punches! The words are set nicely with the scallop oval - which is still available as a catalogue write in for $35.95.
I don't know how she got the bit of ribbon I sent to go as far as she did! :) Beautiful work, Narelle! Thanks for sharing ~
Please welcome Diana Farthing in her first appearance on my blog! Again, this month I gave the Challenge Team the new Sherbet Buttons and the new Pink Pirouette Ribbon to feature in a project.
Diana used the Pink Pirouette ribbon and certainly celery button on this one with the 'Great Friend' stamp set, punching holes around the card and then drawing a white line around the whole thing. She said to me, "You showed us that at camp and I love it because it adds elegance without too much fuss." (about using the white gel pen).
Cool - good to know I do sometimes impart some useful gems!
This card is a birthday card for Diana's niece. She's used the retired Flitting By wheel, Great Friend for butterflies (on acetate and cut out) and sentiment and thn placed the gorgeous button in the middle. She just wanted to use pink and white for this one, so the dsp from Tea Party was perfect.
Dianaused the Snow Swirled set and stamped on acetate with the White Staz-On, and then layered certainly celery, pumpkin pie and white cardstock, very vanilla and Pink Pirouette ribbn an the pumpkin pie button. The ribbon is wrapped all around the back of the certainly celery cardstock, so you can see it on the other side. Looks really pretty!
This is a sweet gift given to me by team-member Michelle Cave. It's a cute idea to doll up those lovely handmade soaps you can pick up at local craft fairs that smell so luscious. (I bought soaps last year strictly on the premise that if I couldn't stuff myself with chocolate, at least I could bathe in it).
And you can whip these up in no time for a little gift for birthdays or Christmas. The Scallop Square Punch Michelle has used on the wee card is FREE with purchase this month!
Supplies Used:
Stamps: Flight of the Butterfly, Occasional Greetings
Colours: BAja Breeze, Not Quite Navy
Other: Urban Garden DSP, Baja Breeze ribbon, Hemp Twine, Medium Cello Bags, Scallop Circle Punch, Scallop Square Punch
Welcome to November, our last month for this team of designers! (Apply for the next team here) This month's featured product was the Soft Holly wheel, Stampin' Up!'s lone Christmas wheel. If you need fast, the wheels are a great way to go.
This first items are a place card, matching napkin ring, and a wine glass charm. It's so easy to make your own, customized table decor, as shown here. No need to spend lots, and each year you can do up something different. Guests could even take their bits home as a gift.
Tilly then made up three beautiful, matching cards for a complete coordinating set. The first one is a neaty, stylized tree, the leaves of the tree made up by just a hint of the wheel. I wouldn't have thought to use a wheel in this way - it's great to have such talent around us!
The second project echoes the wine charm in a trio of stars this time, all edged in gold and wheeled with the Soft Holly wheel. Another background of the wheel across the bottom finishes it off nicely.
The last card is my personal favourite of the three - so elegant. Tilly has cut out a triangle, wheeled it in the Soft Holly, and then split the triangle into three neat sections. Edged in gold, each piece is mounted with dimensionals and stands alone. Just lovely.
Thank you, Tilly, for another great outpouring of talent!
One of my customers and a dear lady gave me this Christmas card after she enthusiastically described the technique. Isn't she sweet? I had never seen a recessed card before, so she generously made up a sample of it for me.
Ever notice how our styles and preferences evolve? This is the sort of style I'm going for these days - clean, striking, yet including thoughtful details and techniques. I like it.
And of course, the Season of Joy stamp set is just always a winner. Thanks, Narelle!
Supplies Used:
Stamps: Season of Joy set of eight $60.95
Colours: Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Basic Black,
Other: dsp from another source, craft knife, dimensionals
The second card is from my dearest friend who is really my sister from a different mothe r (and father), Melinda. We grew up together, most years joined at the hip. We went to University togehter and for the most part, got into trouble togehter, too. I miss her dearly; please sign my peittion to get her to come visit me!
She made me this birthday card and the simplicity is quite nice, don't you think? The idea of a one layer card and then layering on inks instead makes for an easy, quick, and elegant project. And a great one to showcase a couple of techniques - here making and sponging and the stamping with markers techniques. Thanks, Melinda! Love you!
Supplies Used:
Stamps: Eastern Blooms set of five $46.95
Colours: Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Bashful Blue, Really Rust, Ruby Red
Pam made me laugh with this one because she is a self-declared non-scrapbooker . . . but she told me "scrapbooking page" kept popping into her head with this month's supplies of pretties kits and an assortment of cardstock. Good for you Pam for pushing yourself out of the comfort zone!
And this fits perfectly with my wedding theme for this week!
And how special Pam made up a page of her own wedding memories. A very creative, yet neutral background makes a great backdrop for the soft colours and elegant embellishments. The hat pins make such a great 3D accent on projects for a truly decadent finish - perfect for special layouts.
Love the journaling, Pam - what a neat layout!! And glad to hear that you enjoyed this - we may be on our way to do scrapbooking classes?? Well done!

Pink Pirouette. So Saffron & Sage Shadow Stampin' Up Cardstock
Sorry this is a day late! I travelled all day yesterday and missed the boat on getting this out.
Elaine has taken the bits of pretties Kit and the Soft Subtles Card I sent her and made three beautiful cards for us this week!
The first card using Sage Shadow is stamped in brown and gold and its beauty is in its simplicity. The rose bloom is stamped onto gold paper, cut out and applied over the top of the original image.
The second card using Pink Pirouette- made like a giant tag and coloured with chalks. Again the rose bloom is stamped onto pink card and this time embossed before chalking, cutting out and applying over the original image. Prettied up with a gold brad, gold thread and crystals from the Pretties Kit.
The third card with So Saffron is stamped in brown and completely embossed. The image and the small flower from the Pretties Kit is painted with Twinkling H2O's. I threaded pearls and silver 'oat' beads onto the eylet pin piercing the card for a nice finishing touch.
Beautiful work, Elaine, and a super example of how varying one theme can yield a great set of cards!
Due to computer problems, this was a very cool submission by our talented Ness Rogers that got missed during August. But it needs to go up - it's an amazing piece of work!
If you recall, in August the artists were given some Pink Flamingo papers and the Rose Red ribbon to work with. Ness has made this amazing scrapbook page and the detail is fantastic.
These tiny flowers along the bottom are made with the Pink Flamingo papers and then covered with a gloss and shimmer. The amount of handstitching on here is impressive!! What a neat border, Ness!
The larger flowers are also made with the same papers and also covered in a gloss and layered up with fabric for some nice texture. the photo is triple matted with Pink Flamingo with more stitching on all the layers.
I like the use of the ribbon as a banner for the title! Ness, I think you need to teach scrapbooking classes . . .
This month the Design Challenge team was given some items from the Pretties Kit - a hat pin, some pearl and crystals, and some silk flowers. They were also given a selection of cardstock - Sage Shadow, Pink Pirouette, and So Saffron.
Tilly has used the Fifth Avenue Floral here to create a soft background for her sweet picture. I have used that set heaps - it makes a great focal image and also a fantastic background when used in softer colours . . . although Black and White would be stunning, too. It's one of those sets that is way more versatile than meets the eye.
The hat pin is used to create the "title" - a very clever idea for a card! I like her idea here of combining a bit of scrapbooking into a card for a very personal touch!
Our last altered Hodge Podge tin for September is done up by Ness Rogers. She's used the Holiday Treasures papers to cover the tin and to make a stunning shaker element on the top. Isn't it gorgeous!!
Inside the tin is more rub-ons and embellishments and some fantastic little pins. I don't know where she found those, but they are great.
Isn't it fun to see how four women can be given the same supplies and come up with such different things? You inspire me so much!!
I have never received so many birthday wishes ever in my life - true!! Between my family, Stampin' Up! family, and Facebook, I felt particularly loved this year.
I wanted to share here some of the beautiful cards I received:
This beauty is made by Karen Rogers and is a shutter card. I haven't made one of these myself yet, but the effect is fantastic! Great Friend is a beautiful stamp set and the matching papers have not been my personal favourites, but they look stunning here. She's got a lot of talent that girl.
Next is an elegant number by Julia Leece. Sahara Sand and Riding Hood Red - what a beautiful combination. And yes, I need to get my crimper out more often. Very nice, Julia.
Donna B. sent me this one for my birthday and don't you just love how she's done up this flower? My first thought was that it would make a fabulous Layout embellishment; what do you think? Love it Donna!
This one made me laugh. Janine P. made me a birthday "treat" with a mushroom and carrots! Don't you love it? She knows me too well!! Very creative, Janine, and yes, I did eat it!
Another stunner by Merilyn I. using lots of embossing, the Great Freind stamp set and the gorgeous Parisian Breeze cardstock. She went all out on this one - I love the En Francais set embossed here in the background on the confetti cream cardstock.
This last card was not specifically a birthday card, but a friend to friend card by our NZ famous Tilly McLeod. I thought it was so nice - the colours are great! That's another thing I don't use nearly enough - the metallic card we have. Yes, we do have metallic cardstock (page 130). And blast from the past: the first thing I ever ever bought from Stampin' Up! was a jar of Classy Copper embossing powder.
I also received some lovely soaps from Jane T. how did she know I wash my kids mouths out with soap? They will appreciate the fruity "flavours". What a mean mother . . . .
Another gorgeous creation with a hodge podge tin and the Holiday Treasures papers!
Tilly has spray painted the tin gold and then decorated the top with some punch art and a Christmas tag.
But the inside holds some amazing treasures! She's filled it with some fabulous oraments, all made with the Holiday Treasures papers to match the tin.
This is the first married Christmas for Tilly's son, so she's made up this tin with hand made ornaments for their first tree together. How thoughtful is that?!
** You all may have noticed I have one particular daughter who loves to jump in whenever the camera comes out . . .
This month's challenge was to alter a Hodge Podge tin with the Holiday Treasures papers. Don't you love what our designers have come up with so far?
I believe Elaine painted her tin first! Well done! Did you know you can buy white acrylic paint from the craft shop and dye it with our ink refills to create a paint to match your projects?
Love the faux brads here, too. Some small circle punches adhered to the corners give a great look - especially when working in a spot like the middle of a tin where putting brads and things through would be a little tricky.
As an added bonus, Elaine made a little tag album to go inside with her name. Embellished up with punches and metallic accents, it looks fantastic! What a great gift idea this would be, too.
For September, the Challenge Team was sent a Hodge Podge tin and the Holiday Treasures papers. I'm excited to see what they all come up with!
Pam's submission is beautiful! Who wouldn't love to receive a gift like that?
I love how she's drawn the thread in with the white gel pen. (Getting a quality white gel pen that actually works is well worth the extra few dollars).
Consider these tins ad added bonus to the Hode Podge Kits - they make some great little pressies.
I think I might have to get another pack of this paper now. You talented ladies have sold me on it! Ha!
Tilly made good use of all the bits and pieces and offcuts. Enjoy this! (Sofie helped me take the pictures):
Paper Flower: Isn't this wonderful! Tilly used 1 cm strips of DSP cut and folded and held with tapeand a button accent. And who doesn't have little strips in their scrap stash?! The sentiment is from Fifth Avenue Floral.
Bookmark Card: Love this idea!! The accent piece is removable to be used as a bookmark, made with two big scalloped circles with a ribbon loop and a stitch of cord threaded through a button and all the layers to hold it together. Gorgeous idea!
Thanks Card: Make this Z fold card using square and circle punches and a single stamp! Finish off with pearl bling and a small bit of ribbon looped and tucked in between the layers. (this is a fantastic way to use up bits of leftover ribbon)
I only sent everyone a small amount of paper and ribbon - she must have used every last bit! Beautiful work, Tilly and great job!
Another clever use of the Pink Flamingo papers! Not only clever, but beautiful!
Elaine's first card uses flower and circle punches to create a simple, yet effective design. I beleive those scallops in the background are made with 3/4 inch circles - a great way to get different sized scallops.
Now, I know I have never thought to put a sentiment twice on a card - have you? But it works!
Elaine's second card is a real stunner; she's got a talent for detail work. The image here is from the Spring Song stamp set, a big seller amongst my customers. Elaine has coloured it in here and then sponged additional ink on to make a shaded background. The bright Pink Flamingo paper behind looks fabulous!
August's Challenge Team pack was a real challenge, in my opinion. This month I gave them the Pink Flamingo papers and some bits of ribbon to match. Okay, I know Shelli Gardner loves these papers . . . but I'm not sure I know what to do with them! Let's see what these talented ladies come up with during August.
Pam's gone and outdone herself and made up three cards with the little pack I sent up!
Isn't that beautiful! I love that Circle Circus set - I WILL get it out and use it one of these days! Waht a clever and simple way to make a cool focal point. And do you see the Pink Flamingo paper in the background? Nice work, pam!
And never would I have thought to pair this paper with Embrace Life, but it works! I really like that Turquoise and Hunter combination, Pam.
And I think this is my favourite of the three. What a simple, clever design. And a great way to use a really loud paper in a small dose . .
I love to see what each member of the design team creates featuring the same supplies!
What fun, bright colours - so indicative of Ness herself. She's taken the pretties kit flower, cut it in half, and it looks like it's been stamped with a bright yellow ink, The rest of the project features lots of tearing and bling.
Love that build a brad, Ness - amazing colour combination! Thanks, Ness!
Next month - a real challenge coming up! tune in next wednesday to see what these lovely ladies create.
The featured products this month were again a Pretties Kit Daisy, buttons, and linen thread. And look what Tilly had made!
The first card is a ladybug one, a personal favourite motif of mine. She'd cut the daisy in half to make two flowers (clever!) and then used circle punches for much of the rest of the design.
The stamp set she's used is called Darling Dots, one that is yet to make an appearance in the New Zealand market.
Tilly's second card is just a work of art! The background is sponged and the linen thread is knotted around the tree images. The nappies are made from scraps of white paper and the pram is made from a simple circle punch with 1/4 sliced out. The rest of the linen thread is used on on the button in the lower left hand corner. Beautiful!!
